Kenny Dalglish had no worries about starting Spearing in the Merseyside derby and has continued to pick the midfielder when he's been fit. Spearing has thanked the supporters for their backing as he made the break through.
"I owe a lot to the fans. They have always stuck by me and have wanted me to come through. I have to prove to them I’m good enough to be a regular in the Liverpool first team," he said.
"I don't feel under any extra pressure being local. Steven Gerrard and Jamie Carragher broke through and became exceptional players for both club and country. But I have to be myself and it's the same with Martin Kelly. We have to try to carve out a career here like they did."
