Finnan started his career with non-league Welling before moving to Birmingham for £100,000 in 1995.
After a brief loan spell with Notts County he joined them for £300,000 in October 1996.
Fulham's manager at the time, Kevin Keegan, took him to Craven Cottage in November 1998 for £600,000 and it was not long before he became a regular in the Republic of Ireland squad.
Although primarily a right-back, he can also play in midfield.
