The Liverpool skipper reverted to right back during the friendly with Argentina on Saturday, and insists he can play wherever he is needed.

"I'm one of those players we'll throw anywhere out of the way," he said. "That's good for me, three positions in one game, it's usually four or five, but I don't mind.

"The team is more important than me and wherever the manager wants me to do a job, I'll do it to the best of my ability. I am quite prepared to sacrifice my own strong position to do a job for the manager and the team.

"It is very difficult at domestic level to play out of position, never mind at international level. But I was happy with my performance on Saturday. I thought I was quite steady in all three positions.

"Everyone is buzzing but I urge everyone not to get carried away. There are some magnificent teams in the World Cup.

"We are one of them but we've got to go and prove that. We know on our day we can beat anyone but going into a big tournament it is all about small details and getting that bit of luck."
