Liverpool's victory lifts them above the Saints to sixth in the Premiership table but Strachan had no complaints.
"We just couldn't compete with them but we will try in the future to compete with them," he said.
"We shouldn't make a song and dance about it. It's quite simple - a good, good Liverpool side beat an ordinary Southampton side."
