The promising forward, a prolific scorer at Academy level for the Reds, has began talks with the Ashton Hate club after an impressive trial stint with the Robins in which he scored seven goals in just three reserve team appearances.

"We began talks with Stephen's representative on Tuesday, but now want to get the end of the season out of the way before anything is finalised," revealed Bristol City boss Danny Wilson on the club's official website.

"Which division we are in next season won't affect the package offered to him, but like everyone else he is keen that we win promotion.

"Being in the first division would obviously make us more attractive to join."
