Heskey moved to Anfield for £11m in March 2000 from Leicester, but still holds the Foxes close to his heart.

And with his family still living in Leicester, and Heskey keen to repay the side that gave him his first big chance, the striker didn't think twice about digging deep to help his former club out.

He said: "I am a Leicester lad and Leicester gave me my first big chance in football.

"That's something I'll never forget. My family still live in Leicester and I still follow their progress.

"When I read about the trouble they were in, I felt I wanted to do my bit to help them out. I recognise I am in a very fortunate position to be able to help them. I hope they get sorted and get back into the Premiership."
