John Miles has started his trial at Gresty Road with Crewe after persuading manager Dario Gradi to give him a go.
"John's been very persistent in requesting a trial, having first contacted me midway through last season, but in truth he wouldn't have got in the team then," said Gradi.
"He's come in now though and looks promising. He's a good technical forward player and we'll get a good chance to look at him this week."
