Sunderland manager Mick McCarthy laid into his team following their poor performance against Birmingham on Saturday and Collins says he and his team mates aim to put things right against the Reds at the Stadium of Light tomorrow night.

"We've had a terrible run and the fans deserve better. All we can do is roll up our sleeves and battle on," said Collins.

"We need to show some fight, that's the only thing to do in this situation.

"When you have a good run it affects confidence, which makes a huge difference in football.

"The one thing we must not do is give up hope. I think it's a good thing that we have Liverpool coming here on Wednesday.

"We've got to be determined and go out there and put it right. It is embarrassing and we've got to change it."
