Manager Peter Reid is hoping that star striker Kevin Phillips can recover in time for the game.
Phillips has been nursing a hip injury all week but returned to training earlier today. A decision on whether or not he will figure will be made in the morning.
Reid is desperate for Phillips to declare himself able to play because Patrick Mboma has an ankle injury.
"We'll wait until tomorrow to make a decision on Kevin and Patrick but I'm very hopeful," said the Sunderland boss.
Julio Arca (groin), Michael Gray (back), Emerson Thome (Knee) and Bernt Haas (hamstring) are all ruled out of the game.
