Super Carra's high hopes

Carragher has been a constant for the Reds since Rafa Benitez took charge, and his solid, uncompromising style of play has led to him being recognised by many fans this year as one of our most consistent performers.

And Carra now believes that the Carling Cup final could mark a new era for the Reds.

Speaking to the club website, he said: "It will be brilliant for the manager if he can win a major trophy in his first season. There's no doubt he is going to be here for a long time and I'm sure he'll win a lot of trophies, so the sooner he wins the first one then the better because he can get that monkey off his back very quickly.

He added: "We've had a big confidence booster this week with the victory over Leverkusen and if we can win on Sunday as well then we'll be in a great position to do well over the remainder of the season in the Premiership and Champions League."

However, the defender admits that nothing can be taken for granted when facing such stiff opposition as Chelsea.

"We can talk about winning a major trophy this weekend but we have a very good team to beat first and it's not going to be easy," Carragher added.
