Sven calls for an end to Crouch sniping

The Liverpool striker was booed when he replaced Sean Wright-Phillips as a second half subsitute but the England manager says Crouch has an important part to play in the build up to the World Cup.

"Wright-Phillips was absolutely excellent in the first half. He got a bad knock and he wasn't 100% right. I noticed he was struggling to recover when running back after we lost the ball. It's a small problem. It was the right decision to substitute him but I understand the reaction," said Eriksson.

"Why not try Crouch? I don't know who was being booed, whether it was me or Crouch. Crouch is a good footballer. He had played just one and a half internationals before today.

"He is very good, very important. He has something other players don't. It is very harsh to judge him yet."
