"When you talk about Steven Gerrard you expect great things," said the England coach.
"He is an extremely good player and obviously he is not playing as well as Liverpool want him to.
"I think he can play better but I have not noticed a change in his character.
"It happens now and then that a manager will try and wake up a player but I have not talked to Houllier about it, and I have not talked to Gerrard about it
"It is a problem between them - they will have to resolve it without my involvement."
