Liverpool's Philipp Degen was an unused subsitute as Switzerland lost the opening game of Euro 2008 1-0 to the Czech Republic. Subsitute Vaclav Sverkos scored the winner.

In the other game in Group A, Portugal beat Turkey 2-0.
