The Swiss defender limped off the field with a calf injury and now faces five weeks out while he has surgery.
With Euro 2004 qualifiers against Albania and the Republic of Ireland comin up, Kuhn is furious that his star defender was risked.
"His problems weren’t new to the manager," he said. "I cannot understand why he had to play.
"We will miss Henchoz particularly against Ireland next Wednesday. I honestly hope Liverpool have checked his injury and not just aggravated it."
