Thai bid not popular in Thailand

Shinawatra revealed he is interested in buying a 30% stake in the Reds earlier in the week but it has since come to light that the purchase of shares would be financed by public funds.

Shinawatra met Liverpool chief executive Rick Parry on Monday for negotiations, negotiations which have been reported to have been done on behalf of the Thai government rather than Shinawatra as an individual.

Democrat party spokesman Ong-art Klampaiboon has questioned the purchase of shares saying the using of public funds to finance the deal was a corruption of policy.

"I see this as a policy that facilitates corruption," said Mr Ong-art.

"They want the Liverpool shares but use sport promotion policy to justify the use of state money to buy them."
