The axe has fallen

As exclusively revealed on the Insider last month, Joe Corrigan has been axed as the reserves manager and replaced by Under 19's boss Hughie McAuley.

Whispers from within the club claim that Gerard Houllier was unhappy with the amount of youngsters that were released by the club this summer.

The reserves team is an excellent platform for youngsters to obtain valuable experience but nobody has been knocking on the first team door for some time now. Hopefully under McAuley that will now change.

Only yesterday on the official LFC website, Corrigan spoke of his aims for the new season with the reserves, saying: "Again we'll be looking to bring through some of the youngsters and it's up to them to prove they have what it takes to keep progressing." One can only assume that Corrigan was interviewed prior to the decision to move him.

Unfortunately Corrigan will remain as the goalkeeping coach despite the fact that he can't jump off the ground himself.

John Owens will now coach the Under 19's.
