The crying game

Houllier believes Dudek must be 'strong' in the face of adversity as he faces up to the challenge posed by Chris Kirkland.

Houllier said: `He was very tearful after the game. But I will tell him not to think about it and to get on with things because we will help him.'

`The game is about mistakes and sometimes these things happen. Nobody will blame him.

`We finished second last season and that was partly down to his work and talent.'

Houllier, though, is only too aware that Dudek is short of confidence, and said: `It is something that all goalkeepers go through from time to time, but he has got to live with that and be strong to overcome it.'
