Former Liverpool midfielder Michael Thomas believes Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is wrong to say that this year's Premiership could be decided by a single goal.

"I don't think it will be decided by a single goal this year," said the 34-year-old Thomas, who is desperate for a move away from Wimbledon. "I don't even think it will go down to the last game of the season."

As for Liverpool's chances, Thomas added: "They will be there again this season and once Gerard Houllier comes back to guide them, they will go right to the wire.

"They are definitely the best defensively. Their back four remind me of Hansen, Nicol, Ablett and Staunton from 1989."
