Having picked up yet another man of the match accolade, an awe-struck Thompson could only offer the suggestion that the doping squad will soon be forced to investigate Gerrard's superhuman efforts.
Thompson said: "I tell you what, Stevie is the best central midfielder in Europe at the moment. I was a bit worried that the doping team would have wanted to look at him considering how well he played, he was everywhere!"
The sensational skipper also won glowing praise from opposing manager Harry Redknapp after his breathtaking performance.
