Thompson: Defence can't take all the blame

The Reds have conceded nine goals during a six game period which has seen just one point added to the league total. Thompson, though, feels Liverpool's lack of goals has put extra pressure on the defence.

"There has been a knock-on effect," said Thompson. "When you are not scoring at one end, you invariably concede at the other. Then, the more you concede, the more the strikers get anxious and the midfield stops functioning as it should.

"You can never pinpoint one area when you are going through the spell we have and we would never lay the blame in that manner."
