Thompson: Don't write us off

Liverpool face daunting trips to title rivals Arsenal and Newcastle as they bid to end an eight game winless streak.

Thompson, though, remembers a similar run suffered by the Reds last year - a bad run ended by victory at Old Trafford. The Reds assistant manager believes Highbury offers a similar opportunity for Liverpool.

Thompson said: "We were in a similar position last year when we had a couple of dodgy draws before going to Old Trafford.

"People were writing us off, wondering how many goals United were going to beat us by.

"But we had great faith in the players who were available and we got a deserved victory.

"It was no hard-earned win either, we just played very well. That's the way we envisage going into not only the Arsenal game but the Newcastle game.

"We want to show people what we are made of. We still have great belief that we can go on a long unbeaten run and turn things around.

"Of course it hurts when you are not winning but we've got good professionals here and they know their responsibilities.

"Every club has been through a bad time. It happens in football. You can't think you can go through a season unbeaten.

"Arsenal are a very good team, very fluent but as has been shown this year they are beatable.

"We would all like to stay unbeaten but the possibilities are getting less and less. You look at the amount of games teams are losing.

"That's why we are still in with a chance of the title. We are not a million miles behind.

"Even if it does go wrong against Arsenal, and it won't, we will still be in there."
