Thompson frustrated by goal-shy Reds

Saturday's 1-1 draw against Middlesbrough was, to Thompson, yet another example of the glaring fault that is halting progress at Anfield. Liverpool, it has become increasingly apparent, are incapable of taking a fair proportion of their chances.

Thompson said: "We dominated but once again you will wonder why haven't we scored the goals?

"That is the big issue, but you can't question the players. I felt for them and the fans because it is a frustrating time for everybody, but if we keep playing like that there is no doubt we will be sailing and on a run between now and the end of the season."

He added: "I think the way our season has been it's starting to sound like old hat, but when you are sitting there and you have absolutely dominated a game and Jerzy Dudek has had nothing more than back passes to deal with and they score, you wonder what is going on.

"We have to push on again now and start taking the points we need to get us where we want to go."
