Thompson hails 'fantastic' performance

Liverpool's upturn in form has been based on steady progress in recent months with the Reds being unable to score the goals that their displays have often merited. This all changed, of course, at the Hawthorns with Michael Owen and Milan Baros running rampant. Thompson feels that the Reds are now in perfect shape as they bid to claim a top four position.

Thompson said: I noticed Gary Megson said Saturday's result had been an accident waiting to happen but we could say it was a matter of time before we did that to somebody.

"Michael could have had two match balls and Milan could have had one as well. They both did really well but somebody has to supply all those chances. And that is why it was such a fantastic all round performance.

"We know what we have to do in the last two matches. We are looking forward to it, because we have been in these tight positions before. The boys are on a roll and full of confidence."
