Thompson: We must focus on the league

Cup victories over Auxerre and Manchester United have offered signs that Liverpool's season could yet be revitalised over the coming weeks. It must be remembered, though, that the Reds have not won a league match at Anfield since they recorded a 2-0 victory over West Ham on November 2nd. Thompson is fully aware that this run must end this weekend against relegation threatened Bolton Wanderers.

Thompson said: "After the final we had a celebration dinner, the players deserved it. But that's it now, the most important game is at the weekend against Bolton. The Worthington Cup is in the background now and we have to push on.

He added: "The cup final victory does, of course, help confidence - but we now have to focus and prepare for Bolton. That has its own significance."
