While most onlookers would expect Sir Bobby Robson's men to be in contention for a top four spot, many will be surprisd by Houllier's apparent snub to Birminham City - a side that stand level on points with the Reds after Saturday's fixtures.
Houllier said: "It is eight cup finals now, but those home games are vital. We have Newcastle and Charlton also at home and they are critical matches.
"Newcastle and Aston Villa seem to be the main rivals, while Charlton look to have lost too many points at home."
