Roy Hodgson has said that the Spanish striker has won his race to be fit for the game after picking up an abductor strain in Liverpool's 2-1 defeat at Blackpool.
"Fernando's season needs to kick start," said Hodgson. "He's been hampered a bit by injuries and what happened at the World Cup.We see a livelier and better Fernando every day.
"It was really unfortunate that he got injured against Blackpool but luckily it came in the international break so he won't miss any more league games for us."
This is a big boost for the team after news of Dirk Kuyt's ankle injury.
