Torres hoping for Wigan start

Torres scored a hat-trick against Reading in the Carling Cup on Wednesday and will be hopeful of retaining his place in the side for this afternoon's Premier League game against Wigan.

"Torres was talking the other night about having fresh legs. If you use Torres against Birmingham and again at Reading, maybe he would not be ready to play against Wigan and Marseille," said Rafael Benitez.

"You need to analyse this. Sometimes I say I can recognise that I can make a mistake, but in this case I am sure - 100 per cent - that it was a right decision.

"If you take decisions, when you analyse your team and you analyse your squad, you know that during the season you will make some mistakes. That is clear.

"Sometimes you say this player is maybe not the best, but with one mistake maybe you have prepared the team for 10 new games and it's important."
