There was slight hope that Torres could recover from his hamstring injury in time to make the squad for tomorrow's trip to Stamford Bridge but the striker is not fit enough and will instead make his comeback in the midweek game at home to Portsmouth.

"Fernando won't be involved. He is recovering well and should be fit again soon, but we have to be careful with the player," said Rafael Benitez.
