The French defender came on for the injured Sami Hyypia, and played well despite the Reds' 1-0 defeat.
Two days earlier he was expected to be announced as a new signing for Everton, only to be recalled into the squad for Sunday's game at short notice.
"People will have seen me play against Bolton and now think that I must be staying but I honestly don't know what is happening," he admitted.
"The manager has told me he wants me to stay but of course I want to be playing first team football, that is the important thing for me."
Whether or not Sunday's outing was a shop window display to convince Everton of Traore's abilities is uncertain, but time is running out, with the transfer window closing tomorrow.
