"We fight until the end and when you fight you can win and with this mentality normally you win," he said after the game.

"I think that we controlled the game. For the first 30 minutes of the first half and we lost concentration for 15 minutes perhaps, but in the second half we tried, tried, tried and at the end we scored.

"They had two or three shots in the game and we had a lot of them, then all you can do is to think about being more aggressive and more offensive if possible.

"It was good for the captain at the end and I think it's good for the supporters to see that he wants to play for Liverpool as well as possible.

"For the confidence and the finances this result is important, but for the confidence of the players in the future in the Premiership and other compititions it is very important.

"The atmosphere was wonderful. Congratulations and thank you to the supporters because you'll never walk alone, and it's true.
