Tuesday's opponents

Coming back from a two-goal deficit from the first leg in a 3-1 defeat, a 2-0 win ensured Basel’s first Champions League appearance. Basel play their home games at the St. Jacob-Park, which has a capacity of 33,343.

Basel have few real stars, but Argentinean Christian Gimenez, a tricky right sided forward, is a regular goalscorer in the Swiss league. Infact, it was Gimenez who scored the all important away goal at Parkhead two weeks ago, one that ultimately condemned Celtic to the UEFA Cup.

Striker Hakan Yakin is another to look out for in a list of names that reads like a United Nations convention, with everything from Swiss to South Africans, Australians to Congolese.

For this reason Basel have a mixture of players ranging from the technically gifted to the athletic. And judging by their performance against Celtic, they’ll be no pushover.

They started off as the underdogs’ of Group B, but not a poor side by any stretch of the imagination and have already shown that in their gutsy 1-1 draw at Anfield in September, when Julio Rossi's equaliser gave them a valuable point.
