The comments are particular relevevant to Reds fans at present, given the takeover talks currently underway. Gaillard said he was worried that the introduction of the super rich to certain football clubs would only widen the distance between teams, and make for less exciting football.
"There is no doubt the immediate threat in the short term is a huge increase in the gap between the haves and the have-nots - and in the long term, inflation in wages and transfer fees and a concentration of power that could destroy the game," Gaillard said.
