It was an awful day for the Reds who finished the game with ten men after left back Michael Burns was sent off for picking up two yellow cards. Liverpool also had centre half Laurence Gaughan and midfielder Paul Barratt forced off through injury.

Liverpool's consolation goal was scored by Johnathon Pringle.

"It was a difficult match for us and losing two players due to injury didn't help matters," said Liverpool Under-18's coach John Owens.

"We were 2-0 down at half-time and then Crystal Palace made it 3-0 and game over five minutes into the second half. We then had Michael Burns sent-off for two yellow cards so overall you have to say it was a disappointing day."
