Under 18's beaten

Liverpool were brought back down to earth with a bang following Thursday's FA Youth Cup quarter final win over Sheffield United. The Reds were beaten 2-0 at the Kirkby Academy by Bolton yesterday morning.

It was all change for the Reds at the weekend with eight of Thursday's victorious side absent for the visit of Bolton. Only Jay Spearing, Astrit Ajdarevic and Jimmy Ryan played in both games.

The trio were Liverpool's best players yesterday but could not prevent Bolton from departing with all three points following a first half free kick and a free header in the second half.

"We made the changes because we wanted to give some of the lads who haven't played much a chance," Academy coach John Owens told the club's official website.

"It was disappointing to lose the game and this has brought us down a little after Thursday's elation.

"We didn't start the game well and Bolton took the lead. We then missed two good chances through Ryan Wignall and Michael Collins before Bolton scored again with a free header from a free-kick, although we felt that was off-side."
