Under 18's draw

A last minute penalty earned the Reds a draw with Sheff Wed at the Academy on Saturday morning. The point was no more than Liverpool deserved in an entertaining game.

Sheffield Wednesday seemed on top in the opening stages of the game but the Reds took the lead a little bit against the run of play in the first half. Ryan Flynn picked up the ball in the Wednesday area and ran at the Wednesday keeper before calmly side footing the ball to his left to allow Ryan Wignall a simple tap in.

The goal was a boost to the Reds who began to take charge of the game. Liverpool played some nice football and could have gone 2-0 up only for Paul Barratt's lob to be cleared off the line.

Half time seemed to break the Reds' concentration and Sheff Wed were allowed back into the game in the second half. Two goals in a five minute spell meant Liverpool found themselves 2-1 down. However, they rallied and in the final minute Francis Smith's header was handled in the box and Smith himself scored the resulting penalty.
