Three penalties were awarded during the game. Everton went 1-0 from the spot before Carl Noon equalised for the Reds, also from the penalty spot. Liverpool keeper Paul Willis was then the hero as he saved Everton's second penalty to earn the struggling Reds a welcome point.

Coach John Owens was pleased with his team's performance and happy with a point.

"We've got to be pleased with the result as we haven't had the greatest results recently." said Owens

"We are not governed by results at the Liverpool Academy and player development and getting match experience is the big thing for us, but we know we have to improve our level of play.

"There are some good players in Dave Shannon's Under-16 team and a few have made the bench in my team this season. The problem is we don't want to just throw them into the Under-18 team because some of the players are only 14 and 15 so it would be a big step for them."
