Owens said: "Crewe started better and went into the lead from a set piece free-kick. We equalised 10 minutes later through Paul Barratt who scored a superb goal, when he made a well timed typical surging run into the box before finishing.
"I felt we played the better football overall but couldn't get the second goal and weren't able to push on."
