Under 18's lose

The Reds dominated the game from start to finish but fell to a last minute City goal at the Academy yesterday. The defeat denied Liverpool the chance to overtake Blackburn at the top of the table.

The hero of Saturday, Craig Lindfield, almost scored right from the start when he charged down a City clearance. Unfortunately for the Reds the deflection went wide of the City post but it was an early indication of Liverpool's dominance.

Liverpool had most of the possession in the first half but were unable to create any clear cut chances. However, just before the break, the Reds took the lead. Charlie Barnett picked up the ball in his own half and ran deep into City territory before sending Paul Barratt clear to cooly slot the ball under the City keeper and put the Reds in front.

City equalised in the second half thanks to a mix up between full back Jordan Holmes and goalkeeper Dave Roberts. Holmes underhit a back pass and Roberts tried to take a touch but missed the ball allowing the City striker to equalise in an empty net.

Liverpool didn't drop their heads after the equaliser and continued to take the game to Man City. However there was to be a further blow for the Reds when they failed to clear a long throw in in the final minute and City were able to score an undeserved winner.
