The team was made up of the Under 16 outfit, with their boss Dave Shannon in charge. This team will then progress to the John Owens Under 18's next season.

Owens said: "It (the match) gave me a chance to see the players I will have in the Under-18 team next season as I haven't seen the Under-16s play this season."

And he added that he thought the Under 16's played well due to Wednesday's more mature and physically stronger side.

"In the end it was very difficult for the players as Sheffield Wednesday were very physical and it was too much for the young lads," he said.

He added: "It was a good learning experience for them for what they will face next season. I thought at the back we did well with Jay Spearing, Robbie Threlfall and Stephen Darby working hard because they were put under a lot of pressure."
