Under 18's lose again

The latest defeat means the Reds have only picked up one point from their opening five games. As in previous games this season, the under 18's played well enough but just couldn't score the goals their play merited.

"It was a disappointing day for us but again like our previous games we are creating chances but just can't put the ball into the net," said Academy coach John Owens.

"We had a young team out and having Laurence ruled out during the warm-up was a blow for us. He is our tallest centre half and Barnsley scored the only goal of the game with a header from a cross.

"We had some good individual moments but we can't buy a goal at the moment and we are paying dearly for it, but we just have to keep at it and hopefully the goals will start to come."
