The Spanish club were interested in signing the Czech striker last Summer, but with Michael Owen leaving for Real Madrid, any potential interest was muted.

But with Baros now thought not to be in the long term plans of Rafa Benitez, a new offer of aorund £10m from Valencia could be accepted.

However, Baros' agent Pavel Paska refused to be drawn on the speculation, adding there had been interest from several teams, but not from Valencia.

He said: "There are many teams that have asked for Baros, but I can assure you 100 percent that of Valencia I know nothing."

"I am not saying that they are or are not interested, but they have not transmitted it to me," he added.
