Liverpool defender Gregory Vignal is the latest foreign player to be quoted by the media as ready to quit if not given more opportunities.

Only last week team-mate Milan Baros claimed that Phil Thompson was ignoring him when it came to team selection and that he wouldn't be happy sitting on the bench on a regular basis. This time it's the turn of Vignal to be quoted by the media.

"I'm under contract until 2005 but if I can't win back my place in the team in the next year or so, I will have to ask for a transfer," said the defender.

"I wouldn't want to but if it doesn't work out here you have to try somewhere else."

Vignal has been out of action since breaking his foot last October and is slowly trying to regain his fitness at Melwood and in the reserves. He admits that it hasn't been an easy ride since sustaining his injury.

"It was very tough, I was on the right path and this injury stopped me in my tracks. Now I have to try and win back my place."

"The Spanish option still exists," he admits, should he have to move on, but he insists he wants to win his place in the Liverpool side. He added: "My priority is to prove that I deserve a place in Liverpool's plans."

Supporters are asked to to take into consideration that these quotes may have been translated and to be aware that certain media outlets may try to dramatise them over the next few days.

Vignal has proven himself as a huge hit since his arrival but like everyone else, he has no guarantees of a starting place.
