"He has looked very good. He's a big international player alongside Shevchenko and he's doing very well," said Carragher.
"The big thing at the moment is to get fit and ready for the season but doing well gives you confidence and hopefully he can take that into the season.
"He took his goals very well in Switzerland and also looked very sharp against Crewe. It's great news for us if he carries this kind of form into the season."
