Both players have been named in the squad to face Serbia & Montenegro next week, and it will be the first time they have been in the side together since Carew lashed out at Riise on the team bus last year.
Since then Hareide has replaced Nils Johan Semb as coach, and is hoping he can resolve their differences.
"It is all about communication," Hareide said.
"Their meeting again in the national team must be shown in the right way.
"It is important that those who were involved in the case realise how serious it was - and that they behave perfectly. Nothing else will be accepted."
