Warnock aiming for cup success

Liverpool received a lot of criticism last season after they were knocked out of the FA Cup by Burnley and Rafael Benitez was accused of disrespecting the most famous cup competition in the world.

Warnock, who was part of the side beaten by Burnley, dismisses the notion but says the Reds will be going all out to avoid a similar exit this season.

"I don't accept the view we were being disrespecful to the FA Cup by not using all the first team players against Burnley," said the Academy graduate.

"The manager picked a side which was good enough to win that game. We had the players to do it. It just didn't happen.

"We could have played a stronger team and still lost that night. If that had happened, you can bet everyone would have been saying the manager should have stuck with the young lads who played so well in the Carling Cup.

"When you're a kid, the dream is always to go to Wembley, or in recent years Cardiff, and get your hands on that trophy. That's not changed.

"I know the foreign lads feel the same. The FA Cup Final is shown all around the world. It's the biggest domestic competition there is, so everyone wants to win it."
