Warnock glad he stayed

Warnock had found himself on the sidelines at Liverpool under former boss Gerard Houllier and was seriously thinking about leaving Liverpool in the summer.

Warnock had been on loan at Coventry where he won their player of the year award and was offered a permanent contract by the Highfield Road side. However, the lifelong Red decided to sign the new contract he was offered by Liverpool and now couldn't be happier.

"It's just good to be back involved," says Warnock. "Obviously when I was at Coventry last season I thought that was the end of my time with Liverpool. Then I got a phone call from Rick Parry and got asked to come back here which was a great thing for me.

"Looking at it now it looks like I made the right decision to stay at Liverpool. I wasn't too sure what to expect following the change in management. On the one hand I was thinking the new manager may want to bring his own players in and that my chances would be limited but things couldn't be any worse than they had been and I suppose everyone was starting from fresh.

"The new manager has given us new ideas and the training has changed. Things have changed at Liverpool but being away for a year you tend to forget what does actually go on. I was used to a routine at Coventry and now I've got to get back into the routine at Liverpool. Hopefully I can do enough to impress the manager and play my way into his plans."
