The 21-year-old Englishman, who can play at both left-back and left-midfield, has revealed that he spoke with former Highfield Road stars Chris Kirkland and Richie Partridge before deciding to snub Crewe in favour of a move to Gary McAllister's side.

Warnock, speaking to Coventry's official website, said: "Gary McAllister rang me up while I was at home during the summer and asked me if I’d like to come on loan for a year.

"I spoke to Richie a couple of times and to Chris Kirkland to see what he said. I spoke to Peter Atherton as well. I was friends with him at Bradford and none of them had a bad thing to say about the club. They said everybody would look after me and that it’s a club going forward so it’s a good move."
