Warnock waiting for Reds chance

Warnock was a revelation whilst on loan at first division Bradford and it was expected that he would be given a chance for the senior side this season. Such a chance, though, has not materialised. Warnock, a natural left-back, has had to watch on from the sidelines as Djimi Traore has been given numerous chances to play in the position. Despite his disappointment, Warnock is still hopeful about his Anfield future.

Warnock said: "I'd never forgive myself if I left Liverpool without feeling I'd done everything I could to try and force my way into the side. Obviously it's very difficult at a club like this. But I still have a year left on my contract and I'm determined to give it a go. If you look at our squad there are so many great players it's so hard to break in.

"I don't mean this in a nasty way, but you sort of end up waiting for players to get injured because you know their misfortune may help you.
I think it's fair to say it's probably harder now for youngsters to get a chance than it was years ago because squads are bigger.

"It's vital for clubs to get into the Champions League so it's understandable more money will be spent on getting the best players. A few years ago if squads weren't so big the manager would look at the young-sters when there were injuries. When you do get a chance, you have to prove you're good enough to take it."

"It's encouraging to see Neil Mellor get a chance and that's the kind of example you want to follow as a player. You just have to keep working and then something might happen. At the beginning of the season I was really happy with my form and then when the chance came to go on loan to Bradford, the gaffer said it would be a good idea to get some experience.

"It was going really well there but then I got injured and it setme back. I thought I was only going to be out two weeks, but it turned into 10. It was a real pain for me.

"It was a good experience for me there though. I was gutted I missed the chance to make my Liverpool debut in the Worthington Cup, which was a possibility if I'd stayed, but the way I looked at it I probably gained more by playing lots of games in Division One than just playing once for Liverpool.

"What I would love most is to stay at Liverpool but you never know if that will be possible. That's up to the manager and a lot will depend on the kind of players we sign in the summer."
