Welsh was due to go on loan to Sunderland for the remainder of the season but the midfielder has been ruled out for a month after breaking a foot in Tuesday's Liverpool Senior Cup game against Runcorn.
By the time Welsh has recovered the Nationwide transfer deadline will have passed.
