Welsh still dreams of first team football

The young midfielder was hoping to get his opportunity last season, but only managed two first team games, against Olimpija Ljubljana and a substitute appearance against Arsenal.

"In the pre-season I started slow and wasn't as sharp as I should have been," he told the official site. "I let myself down in the first few reserve games this season and didn't do as well as I can do."

Welsh did however have a good game for the reserves at Birmingham on Wednesday night, despite their 2-1 defeat.

"I thought I did okay against Birmingham and I scored my my first goal of the season.

"I was delighted to score as I've been getting a lot of stick from the lads because my shooting has been awful this season."
